cloud nines: narrative fragments
Music videos. Fishing tales. The latest novel. Reminiscences. Storytelling takes many forms. I’m intrigued by story, both cultural and personal, and the irony that can hide in a narrative. There’s a common thread of human vulnerabilities and experiences that runs through all tales whether they’re from personal, societal, or mythological sources. In this body of work, I’m exploring narrative with the emphasis upon fragments.
“Cloud Nines: Narrative Fragments” is an installation of thirty-five cloud shaped band saw boxes that explore hidden desires, thoughts, dreams, hopes, and innocence lost. These intimate ‘peek hole’ assemblage pieces incorporate found objects, pictorial elements, words, music, and moving components: narrative fragments. ©2012
A performance area was staged as part of the installation. Here I recited poetry I’d written during scheduled times of the exhibition.
I would like to thank the Hornby Island Arts Council for their Professional Development grant which helped to fund this series.
